Valbona Pass

Actualizado 2026Verificado a pieOn the Valbonë–Theth trail

The Valbona Pass is the high saddle on the famous Valbonë–Theth hike, where the trail crests the Accursed Mountains and opens onto sweeping views of grey limestone peaks and green valleys on both sides. It is the high point, literally and figuratively, of one of the Balkans' great day hikes.

Historia

Cómo surgió

The pass has long been a crossing between the Theth and Valbonë valleys, used by shepherds and highlanders before it became the backbone of the Valbonë–Theth trek and part of the wider Peaks of the Balkans route.

Lo que verás

En la visita

Panoramic views of the Prokletije peaks, the trail winding up through pine and scree, and — near the top in season — simple huts selling drinks to walkers. It is the crossing point of the full-day hike between the two valleys.

Cómo visitarlo

Reached on foot only, on the Valbonë–Theth trail; the full crossing takes roughly 6–8 hours. Start early, carry water and layers, and check conditions before setting out.

Bueno saberlo

It is roughly 15 km (sources range from about 14 to 17 km) and the full crossing takes roughly 6 to 8 hours over the pass at around 1,795 m; most walkers start early and go one way between the two valleys.

The main trail is well established and waymarked in season, but you should be fit, carry water and layers, and check conditions before setting out.
