Shpella Guesthouse

Updated 2026Theth village centre, Albanian Alps

A simple stone guesthouse near the village centre, with a stone-flagged terrace, an in-house bar and restaurant, and space in the garden for tents. A budget base within walking distance of the church and the main trailheads. The listing covers both ends of the market: family rooms with private bathrooms, parquet floors and garden or mountain views, and beds in a 22 square metre four-bed dormitory that shares a bathroom. Breakfast is a buffet and comes with the room. A traditional restaurant does local cooking, and there is a bar, a lounge, a coffee shop, a picnic area and an outdoor dining area, with free WiFi, free private parking and a 24-hour front desk; a paid shuttle can be arranged. The owner was born in Theth and is blunt about the valley in his own listing: no bank, no chemist, so bring what you need with you.

Timber and stone buildings of Bujtina Polia guesthouse below snow-covered peaks in Theth
Guesthouse

Bujtina Polia

A family bujtina in the heart of the valley, with timber-and-stone buildings set against the snow-dusted peaks of the Accursed Mountains. Rooms are simple and warm, and the in-house restaurant serves the hearty home cooking that defines a stay in Theth, traditional dishes cooked daily from seasonal produce sourced in the village and on nearby farms. The Polia brothers opened it in 2002, and it stands on Logu i Kishës, the church meadow, which puts the stone church a couple of minutes away on foot. Rooms run from singles and doubles through to a triple and a duplex, and breakfast is included; the guesthouse quotes doubles at around €60 and the duplex at about €100, though mountain rates move year to year so confirm when you book. It runs roughly April to November, and also arranges airport and city transfers, trekking-pole and map hire and advice on the local trails. Rooms have private bathrooms with walk-in showers and parquet floors, and the balconies look onto the garden, the mountains or the river. Breakfast is laid out as a buffet, with continental, Italian and vegetarian options, and there is free private parking on site. The hosts speak English, Italian, Spanish and French.
