Which part of the valley?

Theth is a scattered valley village rather than a town — guesthouses are spread across a few areas, each with a slightly different feel.

Village Centre

Near the stone church and the Lock-in Tower — the most central base, closest to shops, the sights, and the furgon stop.

Gjelaj

A cluster of guesthouses in the valley, handy for the village while feeling a touch quieter and more rural.

Ndërlysaj / Nderlysa

Further down the valley toward the Blue Eye — a good base if that hike is your priority, and quieter still.

Higher hamlets

Scattered guesthouses in the upper valley, closest to the trails and the peaks, and the most peaceful of all.

Booking Tips

When to Book

The season runs roughly June to September, and the best guesthouses fill up in July and August — book ahead. Outside the season most guesthouses close and the mountain road can be blocked by snow.

Half-Board & Payment

Arrange half-board (dinner and breakfast) when you book — with few eateries in the village, it is how most people eat. Bring enough Albanian lek in cash, as card payment is rarely available in the valley.

Location Matters

Stay near the church and village centre for convenience, or further up the valley toward the Blue Eye for quiet and quick access to the trails. Everything is reached on foot once you're there.

Where to Stay in Theth — FAQ

What kind of accommodation does Theth have?+

Almost entirely family guesthouses (bujtina) — small, family-run places offering rooms and home-cooked meals. They range from very simple to more comfortable, and most work best with half-board, which you should arrange when you book.

How much do guesthouses in Theth cost?+

They are inexpensive by European standards, and half-board (a room plus dinner and breakfast) is common and good value. Bring Albanian lek to pay, as card payment is rarely available in the valley.

Should I stay near the airport?+

There is no airport near Theth. The nearest is Tirana, hours away via Shkodër. You stay in the valley itself — either near the church and village centre or in one of the outlying hamlets.

Do I need to book a guesthouse ahead?+

In peak season (roughly June to September) the best guesthouses fill up, so book ahead, especially in July and August. Outside the season most guesthouses close and the mountain road can be shut by snow.

Do I need a car when staying in Theth?+

Not within the valley — you get around on foot, and trails link the village to the waterfalls and hamlets. A car (or a furgon) only matters for getting up the mountain road from Shkodër in the first place.
